“I just wanted to let you know I received my paperback copy of your book tonight. I’d just finished working a 12 hour shift and just started flipping through it really quickly, not really intending to read it just yet. The cover and the sentimental pictures sucked me in right away. Then, after reading your “From the Author” intro, I knew I had to read it right then … I couldn’t wait … (even though I was tired). WOW!!!! I don’t really even have a decent set of words to string together which could even remotely represent how much I LOVED this! My only disappointment was I didn’t have this copy sooner, I would have given it to my son when we dropped him off for college four years ago.

Jordan Rich, host of The Jordan Rich Show on CBS Radio station WBZ in Boston, has posted an open letter to his son Andrew on the occasion of Andrew’s 18th birthday. It is warm, and comfortable, and full of love and fatherly advice. It is straightforward and without the slightest hint of pomp or judgment. It’s what a letter from a loving father should be. Read it and take note, should you have need to pen a similar dispatch in the future.

Hometown News Includes Dear Austin
in Annual Special

The Azle News, a small regional newspaper in the Dallas/Fort Worth area of North Central Texas, published its 20th Annual Celebration of the Art and Artists in our Community on November 11, 2010. Included in this annual special section on the arts is a generous article by Carolea Hassard about Dear Austin – A Letter To My Son.

I’m grateful to Bob Buckel, publisher of The Azle News, and to Carolea Hassard, writer/reporter for including me along with dozens of talented artists, writers, and performers who live in and around Azle, Texas. While I grew up in Azle, graduated from high school there, and still have close friends and family in the area, I haven’t actually lived there for many years. So it was particularly kind of them to allow me to be counted among all these wonderful Azle artists.

I just want to say hello, and welcome, to all of you who are a part of the Cleveland SAS fund raiser. I had a wonderful evening speaking to the SAS meeting tonight. It was a great group, almost an even mix of parents and students, and a good discussion broke out after I babbled for about 30 minutes. Thanks for allowing me to participate in your meeting. It was an honor to be invited.

Thanks also for being here, and for participating in the promotion to help your SAS program at Cleveland. I hope it’s a huge success. Spread the word.
